ingredients

1 pound bacon
1 pound hot dogs
1 package (1 pound size) brown sugar

directions

Cut the slices of bacon in half. Cut each hot dog into 4 equal sized pieces.

Wrap one half slice of bacon around each piece of hot dog. Secure with a toothpick.

Place the wrapped hot dogs in the crock pot. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the hot dogs (you may have to gently mix them a bit to make sure they all get coated evenly).

Cover the crock pot and cook on high heat for 3 hours or until the bacon is cooked.

crock pot notes

Crock pots/slow cookers all heat differently. There is no standard among manufacturers. Cooking times are suggested guidelines based on our testing. Please adjust cooking times and temps to work with your brand and model of slow cooker.

recipe tips

Sprinkle a little cayenne pepper or smoked paprika over the bacon-wrapped dogs before adding the brown sugar for a little heat.

Try using maple-flavored or habanero-flavored bacon instead of plain.

If the bacon is not becoming crispy enough in the crock pot, you can finish them under the broiler in the oven for a few minutes.

Be careful not to overcrowd the crock pot so the bacon wrapped dogs heat evenly.

Serve with a variety of dipping sauces like ranch dressing or BBQ sauce.

If you're serving these at a party, keep them warm in the crock pot on a low or warm setting.

Experiment with different types of hot dogs, like spicy or cheese-filled, for variety.

If you're watching your sugar intake, try a sugar-free brown sugar substitute (just make sure it is heat-safe).

common recipe questions

What type of hot dogs are best for this recipe?

Any type of hot dog can be used, but all-beef hot dogs are often preferred for their flavor and texture. You can also use smoked sausage or lil' smokies.

Can I use turkey or chicken hot dogs for a healthier option?

Yes, turkey or chicken hot dogs can be used as a leaner alternative to traditional beef or pork hot dogs.

What kind of bacon should I use?

Regular sliced bacon works well, but you can also use thick-cut bacon for a meatier texture. Avoid using pre-cooked or turkey bacon as they won't wrap as well.

Can I prepare these bacon-wrapped dogs in advance?

Yes, you can wrap the hot dogs in bacon and refrigerate them overnight. Add the brown sugar just before cooking.

Is there a way to make this recipe less sweet?

You can reduce the amount of brown sugar or use a sugar substitute for a less sweet version.

How do I prevent the bacon from unraveling while cooking?

Secure the bacon with toothpicks or small skewers so it stays wrapped around the hot dogs during cooking.

Can I cook these in the oven instead of a crock pot?

Yes, you can bake them in the oven at 400 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes or until the bacon is crispy.

What's the best way to serve bacon-wrapped dogs?

Serve them as appetizers or party snacks with toothpicks for easy eating. They pair well with dipping sauces like ketchup, mustard, or barbecue sauce.

How should I store and reheat leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven or microwave until warm.

Can I freeze cooked bacon-wrapped dogs?

The hot dogs change texture a bit when frozen and thawed but these can be frozen if needed. Just store in an airtight container for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and heat them in the oven on a baking sheet at 325 degrees F until heated through.

These little hot dog bites were delicious! A couple of notes: the brown sugar may start to burn if you cook it too long. I recommend rotating the the hot dogs in the crock so the ones on the outer edges don't burn. Also, use a good meaty bacon, if it's too fatty you might get too much grease forming in the bottom. Lastly, double the recipe. You can thank me later.

This recipe is AWESOME!!! It's the easiest party dish and everyone absolutely loved it. To make it more of a finger food, slice the hot dogs in thirds and wrap with half a strip of bacon. I made a second batch with Nathan's smoked sausage (2 packs of 6 and I cut each sausage into thirds) and added a half bottle of honey barbeque sauce... people raved about it! I highly recommend this as I will be making these for many future parties!

I read the review on this recipe and decided to try it. I had to take something to a party and thought I'd be brave and take something I hadn't made before. I was not disappointed! Everybody loved them. If you double the recipe definitely takes 4 hours.
